Melissa Kerfoot, ma, lmhc
Melissa Kerfoot is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) who provides individual therapy to teenagers and adults. Her main areas of clinical expertise and interest include: anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, relational issues, self-esteem issues, and stress management. Melissa also enjoys working with college students who may be struggling with adjusting to this unique life chapter and managing the stress of exploring their future academic/career goals.
Taking the step to meet with a therapist can be overwhelming so Melissa believes one of the most important parts of therapy is building a strong therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable being yourself. Melissa strives to create a therapeutic relationship based on trust, compassion, authenticity, humor, and respect. She believes these qualities provide a safe space where you can gain insight into yourself so you two can collaborate to address core issues and create the change you wish to see in your life. Her ultimate goal is for you to get what you need from your sessions and have a space where you can be authentic in your emotions. In addition to creating a positive therapeutic relationship, Melissa integrates techniques from various frameworks including: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectal behavior therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, feminist therapy, and client-centered therapy.
Melissa is married with two adorable dogs (who may make a guest appearance during sessions), and in her free time she enjoys reading, watching The Office, laughing at memes, golfing, and spending time with her loved ones.
