Brian Kocher (he/him)
Social Work Intern
Brian is a Master of Social Work candidate completing his practicum/internship in preparation for his clinical license. Brian knows life can be overwhelming and complex, sometimes leading us to feel disconnected from ourselves and others. Whether you are feeling “stuck” in your relationships, lacking motivation, or sensing that you need to make a change, Brian offers teens (ages 16+) and adults a supportive, nonjudgmental space to work through life’s challenges.
Brian aims to make therapy an authentic and collaborative process that centers your goals and lived experience. Drawing from a strengths-based and systems perspective, he works to highlight unseen personal assets while exploring the internal and external factors that shape thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Clients can expect to be met with compassion and understanding, while also being gently challenged to take meaningful steps toward a more fulfilling and sustainable life.
Brian has experience supporting LGBTQIA+ identity development and enjoys working with individuals exploring life beyond traditional expectations of masculinity. He is committed to engaging in open, thoughtful conversations about race, identity, and oppression, and integrates each client’s unique cultural and social context into the therapeutic process.
In his free time, Brian can be found working with his garden, creating art through live theatre, and organizing in coalition with others to make the Greater Lafayette area a more inclusive and thriving community.
Brian works under the supervision of Erin Moon-Walker, LCSW, as well as our psychologist training coordinators.
